What are the unique characteristics of servant leadership
and how do these elements make it different from other leadership models?
2.
Define the paradox of servant leadership, and explain where you
see this paradox present in your own representation.
3.
Based on your understanding of effective leadership, how do you

MGT 410 Topic 2 Service Project
Experience - TO and Online
Find an opportunity to demonstrate servant leadership in an
organization or community through volunteering or serving others. Your goal is
to serve the selected organization or entity for at least a total of four
hours. Submit a summary (1-2 paragraphs) of your intended servant leadership
activity for approval by the instructor. Include the name of the organization
and contact information for the organizational leader. You will use this
experience as the basis for the CLC presentation in Topic 4. You will need
to take pictures during your service project experience for the
presentation. You will also need to submit a “Service Project Consent
Letter" signed by a representative of the organization.
Consider the following quote from Robert K. Greenleaf as you
complete the service project: "The difference manifests itself in the care
taken by the servant-first to make sure that other people's highest priority
needs are being served. The best test, and difficult to administer, is: Do
those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier,
wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And,
what is the effect on the least privileged in society? Will they benefit or at
least not be further deprived."
APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is
expected.

assignment to LopesWrite.
MGT 410 Topic 3 Servant
Leadership in Diverse Contexts
While servant leadership is often associated with Christianity
and the Bible, one could argue that it is compatible with most religions and
philosophies and that it transcends cultures. This assignment presents you with
an opportunity to explore other cultures, philosophies, and religions and asks
you to think critically about how servant leadership practices are apparent in
other religions and cultures.
Select one cultural context. Also select one religious
viewpoint. You may not select Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, or Christianity,
including any of its denominations or traditions such as Eastern Orthodoxy and
Roman Catholicism.
Examine how the principles of servant leadership are evident in
that chosen culture and in that chosen religion. In an essay (1,250-1,500
words), identify similarities and differences between servant leadership’s
philosophies and the values evident in the selected cultural context and
religious viewpoint. Be sure to provide specific examples of practices and/or
values in your discussion.
You are required to locate a total of four articles that address
servant leadership in your chosen cultural context and religious viewpoint. Two
of the articles should examine servant leadership from a different cultural
perspective and two articles should examine servant leadership from a different
religious perspective. Be sure to select academic articles from reputable
sources that are 10-20 pages in length. Include information from the articles
in your discussion.
Prepare this assignment according to the
guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
An abstract is not required.

This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.
The instructor will place students into groups.
This assignment asks you to analyze various companies’

guide leadership practices within an organization. The vision statement
reflects a desired future state worthy of pursuing, while the mission statement
is what is done almost daily in order to eventually realize the vision.
Select a vision and mission statement from one company that

others.
Once you have selected two companies, write an analysis
(1,000-1,250 words) that addresses the following:
1.
Compare the vision and mission statements of the two companies.
What are the similarities and differences? How do you think these statements
impact the culture of each organization?
2.
What servant leadership principles or values are either
explicitly or implicitly apparent in the vision and mission statements of the
company that professes to be servant-led?

their employees in the services they provide, their marketing, etc. Provide a

mission statements would be warranted? Be sure to comment on your understanding
of how such vision and mission statements can or should guide a company’s
treatment of its employees and clients.
Include the vision and mission statements of the companies you
selected in your analysis.

former or current managers or supervisors, educational leaders, civic/business
leaders, and religious leaders. This interview can take place over the phone,
through e-mail, or in person.
Interview
To ensure that the interviews yield comparable results, the CLC
group must prepare a list of questions to ask the chosen leaders
(interviewees). As a team, choose four questions from the following list:
1.
What are the most important qualities an effective leader should
have?
2.
What is the importance of trust in leadership?
3.
What are the qualities you want most in an employee? Why?
4.
Who has had the most influence on how you lead? Why?
5.

In addition to the four interview questions your team will use
from the above list, generate, as a group, two more questions, for a total of
six interview questions. Please note: All members of the CLC are required to
ask their individually chosen leaders the same interview questions, so the CLC
must decide as a team which questions will be included in the interview.

After conducting the interview, each CLC member will
individually create a leadership profile of the chosen leader in a PowerPoint
presentation (5-6 slides). Be sure to include the following in your individual
leadership profile:
1.
A slide that introduces your chosen leader, including justification
for choosing the particular leader.
2.
A summary of the answers to the interview questions.
3.
A description of the leadership model with which the leader
seems most closely aligned.
Group Presentation
After all CLC members have created their individual leadership
profiles, the group will compile the individual team members' slide sets into a
group PowerPoint presentation (20-24 slides, based on a four-person group). For
the combined group presentation, create one or two additional slides (for a
total of 22-26 slides, based on a four-person group) to provide the following
information:
1.
A summary that describes any characteristics of servant
leadership displayed by any of the leaders.
2.
Other commonalities among the leaders, in terms of values,

Individual Presentation
2.
Other commonalities among the leaders, in terms of values,
beliefs, and impact on the community.
Peer Evaluation
Complete the "Peer Evaluation Form,” which is an
opportunity to conduct performance reviews on your team members. All members of
the CLC group must individually complete and submit the evaluation. Information
from the evaluation will be kept confidential and will not be shared with other
members on your team. To receive credit for this portion of the assignment, you
must submit a fully completed evaluation, including evaluating yourself and
selecting one team member that you would hire and why.
